Why is public transportation in India very inefeccient?
I mean seriuosly, its like your lucky if you survive riding the “metro” trains in Mumbai, it’s scary as H-E-L-L, I went there 2 years ago when some of my cousins and I had some money to travel, India was what was most affordable, we thought that ridding the metro in Mumbai would be like here in Monterrey, Mexico (where we are from) but it was totally different, i can not believe a survived, after rdding it I pinched my self to find out if a was still a living person or a dead soul. Befora that I always used to think my country was so third wolrd and crowded, disorganized, polluted, with horrible public transportation (metro, buses, etc…), but after going to India, I see my Mexico as a developed country compared to India, if you dont believe i will put a youtube video of the Mumbai metro, and Monterrey Mexico metro so you can compare

Hi Dear great video capture in Mumbai.
When we are paying Rs. 10/- (equivalent to 0.2 euro) for traveling 50 Kilometer (50 miles) what great we can expect !
You check Metro in Kolkata and New Delhi it would look like Metro of Mexico.
Mexico Area is 1,972,550 km² and population is 108700891
Average Density = 55 person per km²
India Area is 3,287,590 km² and population is 1114017280
Average Density = 338 person per km²
So think of the load on transportation.
Also the poverty is much higher in India. We need to have transportation for all.
If I happen to go to Mexico, I promise to get you similar breaking news type video of your country, seeing which you would be shocked.

Linda asks…
When travelling in India, can I hire a taxi to drive me from Agra to Khajuraho? Is this the fastest way?
I’m visiting India for my first time in early April and am short on time. I wanna check out Delhi, Agra, and Khajuraho, but apparently it takes to long by bus or train to go from Agra to Khajuraho. I know one can hire a taxi to drive from Agra to Delhi, and so I wonder if this can also be done to go from Agra to Khajuraho? Any thoughts?

Jim answers:
You can catch a taxi from delhi to agra and from there to khajuraho and back to delhi as will be comfortable to you.(except between jhanshi and khajuraho ) you can hire a single taxi from delhi to visit agra and khajuraho . From delhi to agra is 190 k.m. And from agra to khajuraho is via jhansi, mahoba. It will be near about 9 hours journey. So it will be better that you go to khajuraho (mahoba nearest railway station to khajuraho as the new track up to khajuraho has not yet started) from new delhi and while coming back you can get down at agra and from agra you can come to delhi. My advise for train is actully becuase of the road condition between jhanshi and khajuraho is very very bad and also dumpy road . So my sugesttion is go to mahoba directly from delhi or agra by train and come bcak by train .
For train detail visit www.trainenquiry.com.
You have a direct train 2448 express depature from nzm (hazarat nizamuddin the railway station name in new delhi) at 21.35 and reach mahoba at 5.55 next day morning and from there you can catch a taxi to khajuraho which is 60 k.m. From mahoba. This train runs only on sunday, tuesday and friday only.
You also have a train 2190 express depature 16.10 and arrival mahoba 01.22 in the mid night . But this train runs daily.
You also have train from agra 2178 express which start at 5.10 and reach 11.15 at mahoba but this train runs only on monday.

Jim answers:
If you compare the cost you will find out the reason. The cost of transportation per kilometer is very low.It is made affordable to the poor people also.India is a country where you can travel with out a car.You can go any where through rail or bus or rail and bus .If you see that at Mumbai about 35 lakhs people(3500000) use sub urban rail service alone every day you will understand the problems.
I agree that the rail service requires improvements ,such as cushioned seats, seats for all, more frequency etc.The Railways are having a master plan to improve services.New cars had been added.
If you have gone to New Delhi ,capital of India you may be having a different opinion, where latest model rail service and bus service are available.
But I understand Mexico is also not an affluent country like USA or UK.I have not visited Mexico. The general understanding and reading material available indicate that general living conditions in Mexico is not even as good as in India.May be public transport bit better.I am not sure.

Mandy asks…
Ii it safe to travel pakistan and iran? (India->Turkey)?
Hi.
I was to travel overland from India to Turkey using train and bus in May 2008.
So I need to travel Pakistan and Iran.
Is it gonna be safe?
(I am east asian.)

Jim answers:
You should be fine. Don’t listen to the news all they show are the worst of the worst. The people there are just like me and you they live normal life’s or a least try to. I’m from the U.S and have been all over the Mid-East at the moment in Iraq and I love it here when its not raining rockets. The people in the Mid-East have so much hospitality they love foreigners. Just use caution where ever you go if you see a rally or protest don’t join walk the other way. Take pictures first. If you are a real traveler not a tourist you will love it.

Mark asks…
I’m spending a month in India, would 30.000Rs. be enough?
Hello, I’m traveling to india for the next month, I’m planning to do a rough trip, like staying in cheap places, traveling by train, bus, etc… I have a budget of 30.000Rs. for the whole month I would like to know if that would make it… or if I need some more… thanx for your help!

Jim answers:
It depend on your nature of expenditure.
For a middle class tourist perday travelling expenses will be near about 1200-1500 day.
For breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea, coffe etc you have to spend 200 rs perday.
For accomadation any where it will be 300-500 perday in medium budget hotel in big city and 250-400 in small and medium towns.
For travelling in train and bus it wont be more then 250-300 perday in sleeper class of train and ordinary government bus.
For other expenses like enterence fee , photo, camera, etc you have to keep 200 rs budget.
